Written with the fluent narrative artistry that distinguishes all of Anita Shreve's bestselling novels, A Wedding in December acutely probes the mysteries of the human heart and the endless allure of paths not taken.

At first I didn't like the "interruption" about Innes and Hazel. As I read further I realized their stories were similar to the reunion Both were impacted by 1..Drowning of a good friend . 2. The horrible results of a massive explosion in Halifax. Both calamities caused estrangements and long held regrets and loss.

I liked the concept of old friends getting together for a wedding many years after they last saw each other. What I didn't like was that one character was writing or had written a story and that story was being told - I found myself skipping over these parts. I don't know how they related to the rest of the book. They didn't hold my interest.
