The simple petal shape takes center stage in this charming book, Playful Petals by Corey Yoder. Each of the 18 applique projects employ simple piecing techniques; the applique is straightforward, eliminating the need for reverse templates, additional seam allowances, and time consuming methods. The techniques are well suited for sewists of all levels.

Good basic directions, but the projects left me utterly flat. They just looked commerical, personality-empty stuff one step up from Ikea. The author runs a business selling her work, and to me, it looks like it, fast-produced, and looking no different to mass-printed pillows and blankets.

Seems to have pretty good instructions for fusible applique, but I didn't actually try to do a project out of the book, so I can't say for sure. There are multiple projects off of each basic design (usually a blanket and a cushion / pillow), so there aren't 18 distinct designs, just 18 projects. It is aimed at using pre-cuts, but they don't seem necessary.
