When Inspector Cetin Ikmen is invited to a murder mystery evening at Istanbul's famous Pera Palas Hotel he finds himself embroiled in a deadly game of life imitating art. Halfway through the evening, one of the actors is found actually dead in the room where Agatha Christie used to stay when she was in Istanbul. Walking in the steps of the great, Ikmen experiences fear and hatred which have echoes deep in his own and his country's past.

Not as good as previous books in the series.

In this novel, Inspectors Ikmen and Suleyman attend a murder mystery dinner. Sounds like a fun night out, but the event turns into work when these two detectives must find out who committed a murder just as the dinner got started. I got confused with who was who since Nadel introduces many characters who have unfamiliar Turkish names. I didn't enjoy this story as much as some of the other Inspector Ikmen novels as Ikmen plays a minor part in trying to figure out who is responsible for the murder. Too much emphasis, IMO, on other characters like Sergeant Ayse and her off/on relationships with Izzet and Suleyman and Nar, a transvestite, who gets involved in helping out at the murder scene.
