How far would you go to sustain the life of someone you love or your own? When the moment comes, and you're confronted with the prospect of 'pulling the plug', do you know how you'll respond? Unfounded rumors of federal 'death panels' grabbed headlines last summer, but the real decisions of how we die, the questions that most of us prefer to put off, are being made quietly behind closed doors, increasingly on the floors of America's intensive care units.

A must-see documentary. It portrays a new phenomenon, that of more people in critical care because critical care medicine has improved (e.g good at keeping people alive on ventilators).

Add to this increasing expectations (by many) that medicine can cure them that are rarely justified.

Issues considered are the wishes of the patient and their proxy, and the desire of the family members not to see their loved ones suffer.

The struggle and stress families go through and how each situation ended are tastefully revealed.
