We liked this one a lot because it encourages the child not only to take on the challenge of learning to read, but also to think about the process of teaching someone to read, which also helps with literacy.

the best reading book for the very young!

My four-year-old keeps asking for this story. The funny part is that she's not after the story as much as she likes hearing the "Mother Slug Nursery Rhymes" embedded in the story. It's actually a great primer for the parents of emerging readers, so it is stealthily driving home the things I should be doing while my daughter is enjoying the humorous pictures and rhymes.
