Canadian author, John Melady’s ‘Maple Leaf in Space’ (2011) was an interesting review of Canadian astronauts and their accomplishments. His book was very well written, however, I do not know why the author left out the names of some noteworthy and well known US astronauts who were referred to but not specifically named. In addition, he failed to acknowledge and name specific Canadian Space Agency facilities or made any reference to how far back Canada’s achievements in space go, e.g., Alouette 1 was launched September 29, 1962 and was deactivated in 1972. This was for me a minor distraction and omission. I would recommend this book to young students who require some information on Canadian astronauts. Senior Doctor-at-Bass-Fishing! D. A.
