If you've seen the series - and paid attention, you don't really need to bother with this book. It doesn't add anything in particular, and more or less presents as a text version of the series, rather than a companion that might add to your greater edification.

Despite a serious absence of copy-editing, this book was very enjoyable and informative. The contrast between the lives of the male protagonists and Ruth, the lone female, is very marked. My impression, in a nutshell, was that the guys got to do all the fun stuff.

Very readable and informative. The three authors have been in BBC historical re-creation series before and do a good job of it.
