"Newspaper crime writer Kris Redner's sister was murdered 30 years ago in the small Adirondacks town where they grew up. Her sister's mysterious death on the estate of Republican presidential contender Senator Lowell Osborne has haunted Kris for decades, but now an anonymous tip offers a chance to bring the killer to justice. When Kris returns home to dig for the truth, she discovers that she's the last loose end in a story the senator definitely doesn't want told. One Dead Sister pits Kris against one of the most powerful men in America and a town that considers her sister's death old, bad news."--

It's rare that I don't finish a book, but after about three-quarters of it, I was so bored with this book that I gave up. It's predictable, overly violent, and I didn't like the heroine at all -- for a journalist she seemed to lack any subtlety or intelligence; her interviews usually ended in her insulting the person she was interviewing. Disappointing.

Before ordering this book from the library, I made a firm resolution to obliterate from my memory every smug suburbanist column inflicted upon me by Randall Denley the journalist. My intention was to approach the book as a virgin, hence unprejudiced, reader. Sadly, the few pages I read were remarkable only for their flaccid prose.

I confess to being a fussy reader. Other, more persistent audiences may find Denley's novel enjoyable, even rewarding, but I wasn't willing to spend any more of my time on it.
