The Metropolitan Opera mounted this production of Gioachino Rossini's seminal 1816 opera buffa The Barber of Seville in 1989. As produced for the stage by the eminent John Cox, with sets by Robin Wagner and costumes by Patricia Zipprodt, the revival stars Rockwell Blake as the nobleman Count Almaviva, Enzo Dara as Bartolo, Kathleen Battle as Rosina and Leo Nucci as Figaro. The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus lend musical accompaniment, with Ralf Weikert conducting and David Stivender serving as chorus master, and James Levine as musical director.
