In a crumbling mansion described by architectural guides as "a building of no interest whatsoever," delightfully eccentric dwellers go about their lives. Marcia the caterer has eyes for wine merchant William, who keeps trying to evict his 24-year-old son. Then there's loathsome Parliament member Oedipus Snark, the mother begrudgingly writing his biography, and the girlfriend who longs to be his wife. And that's to say nothing of Freddie de la Hay, a seatbelt-wearing terrier who happens to be a devoted vegetarian.

I enjoy most of this author's books(except the Sausage dog ones)esp 44 Scotland Street(Bertie!!) and the #1 Ladies detective agency!
Picked up "the Dog who came in from the cold" and found I needed the 1st book in the series..I do like to read them in the order AMSmith wrote them..
then wait eagerly for the next one to arrive!

About 10 stories interweave in a languid and entertaining manner. The characters all share a relationship with residents of a building of flats in London. Over the course of the novel, the characters reflect on modern life, loves (or the search therefore), friendship, and occasionally British politics. As in his other stories this allows the author to make ironic and wry observations about modern life.
The stories are not told all at once, so it's helpful to read this when you "can keep with it." A situation that ends one chapter might not be continued intil many pages later.
