This Superintendent Llob story entails an elaborate puzzle and a trap. It starts a little slowly, but it is worthwhile to stick with it. It is a good book to understand what happened after Algeria's War of Independence and it led, decades later, to the rise of fundamentalism. A similar story occurred in other African nations following the end of colonialism.

This is the best of the Superintendent Llob series. Fast paced, sensibly complex; this novel delves into post independent Algeria, and the machinations of the ruling Kleptocracy that drift the country towards civil war.
