From Library Staff

In this collection of essays, written over several years, curator and social critic Smith uses sardonic humour to offer his views on the politics of being a Native American, skewering various sterotypes along the way and even including himself as a a target of his own criticism.

The greatest virtue of this book is that it is written by a man of mixed ancestry with extensive experience in the movement for native rights, yet does not perpetuate the "noble savage" myth. He casts a critical eye on the foibles of all sides, emphasizing that all human beings are essentially similar.
