I loved the array of characters in this story. I also appreciated that while it is a realistic story, it still has plenty of humorous moments.

This is a heartening yet sad tale about the lies we tell ourselves. Holly is a girl who knows that she lives in a pretty good foster home, but feels it is not for her. So she sets out to search for her mother, even if the woman she finds isn't the one she remembered. Holly has both virtues and faults, but they are all understandable considering the circumstances she came from. On the road, she develops into a better person and discovers more about the world around her. There is suspense in this book about whether or not Holly, or Solace, will be able to find her mother, or be captured and sent to the home on the way.
