Simplistic characters that I just couldn't bring myself to care about moving through a string of violent action sequences, cheesy, over-the-top writing style....This book just wasn't my thing. At all.

This is the back story for a video game that is not of interest to me, so read it as a straight sci fi. The characters are pretty flat, with potential for fleshing out. This is pretty gory, more so than many military sci fi. Characters are either all good or all bad. Let's see what the other books in the trilogy are like.

Revelation is the prequel story to the critically-acclaimed first Mass Effect video game released in 2007. I'm eager to play the game series, and this book was recommended in order to start things off. The narrative is fun and breezes along with a few surprises. We are introduced to a handful of key characters, and more importantly, to the futuristic world of Mass Effect. A little more character development would have helped, but overall not a bad start.

Good prequel, but you do need to see the game to thoroughly understand the character designs (especially of the alien races) and create that sci-fi environment to it's fullest - that way, a movie is played out. Imagination works too, but the intensity may not be there... imo
