Great series! These two books (Prodigal Mage and Reluctant Mage) can stand on their own, but I recommend reading the first two books in the series first just because they are that good. (Innocent Mage and Awakened Mage)
And for both pairs of books take this advice: don't finish the first book without the second one in your hand. She has a nasty habit of leaving you with a terrible cliffhanger in the first book. Just pick up both books at once and pretend it is one long story.
