The ultimate depiction of the idiocy of war, this is an amazing production. A balanced account of one of history's great tragedies. It is a very suspenseful love story of fictional characters set against the backdrop of a very real event. It shows human nature in all its glory and all its brutality and everything in between. Human civilization created the beautiful cities of Coventry and Dresden; human depravity destroyed them. Two individuals from opposite sides of the conflict found love for each other. An anti-war film par excellence. When will we ever learn? 5 stars.

An excellent historical drama about an English pilot behind the enemy lines. A must see for history buffs.

Wonderful film! After writing a paper about whether or not the bombing of Dresden was justified, I was very interested in seeing this film, and I was not disappointed! The film was very interesting from a historical standpoint as the film-makers mixed historical footage into various scenes, and I believe that it was very balanced, not portraying the bombing of Dresden as either a heinous crime or a completely justified act. The love story was also credible - for the most part - and the acting was superb, especially Felitas Woll. And the bombing scenes ... how on earth did they film that?! It was so realistic and frightening, and also just sad that so many civilians on both sides of the war died in such a horrific manner. A great film to see if you are even just remotely interested in WWII.

One of the best war movies I've seen. It shows both side's perspective, not making either side the complete good or bad guy, but rather showing the senselessness and horror that war truly is. Very well researched and historically accurate.
