Readers cant get enough of the #1 New York Timesbestselling author. A favor for Jason, vampire hunter Anita Blakes werewolf lover, puts her in the center of a fullblown scandal that threatens master-vampire Jean- Claudes reignand makes her a pawn in an ancient vampire queens new rise to power.
I loved this book. I am a fan of Jason already. Ever since he arrived on the scene in Lunatic Cafe. First scenes have Nathaniel as well. Fun and Yum.
I recommend starting from the begining of the series, and if you do that the first few books were written in the 90s and it shows (rather painfully in fact). Still a truly fun read. I love Laurell K. Hamilton.
After reading the description I actually had to go back and check if this was the book I read.
There's no real scandal - just an "oops" moment, the part about being a pawn takes up about a paragraph of the book and the ancient vampire supposedly rising to power is mentioned...maybe three times?
'Boring' is the nicest way to describe this book - it reads like an episode of a bad daytime soap opera. I picked it up hoping one last time that Hamilton had done something interesting with the series and just couldn't bring myself to care.
The latest Anita Blake installment features Anita joining Jason on a trip to North Carolina, providing emotional support as he visits his dying father. Of course, bad guys appear, and people get bloody.
I keep hoping Ms. Hamilton will take some of her critics' (and fans'!) advice to heart and the series will improve, but alas! The first scene reads like bad fan fiction, and it's pretty much all downhill from there, including the usual inane "As You Know, Bob" dialogue. Anita's constant pregnancy scares are getting kind of old now. At least this book is shorter than the previous ones!

Add a CommentThis is a good series but I can only read about 2 to 3 books and then I need to take a break from the series.
