The tension of the story builds throughout and keeps the reader interested, but ultimately the mystery is uncomplicated which leads to a somewhat anticlimactic and unsatisfying ending. The story will primarily appeal to teen girls, but is probably a little too intense for most tweens. The author balances the building of atmospheric tension and the descriptions of the murders well. The murders are never explicitly graphic, but through general description and the main character’s reactions, the intensity of the event is portrayed. Overall, it’s a good young adult thriller, but not a great one.
