After a near fatal illness, Jack convalesces in Bath, aided by his new comrade, Red Hugh McClune and the beautiful Laetitia. Jack falls in love with Laetitia only to discover that Red-Hugh has been using the affair to lure Jack away from a plan to assassinate the King. When Jack foils the plan, Red-Hugh escapes to Portugal to join an Irish regiment and Jack rejoins his own regiment to defeat the traitor.
