Wasted opportunity. The author kind of pulled a fast one on Father Amorth, who was kind enough to be interviewed at length; she portrays him as a naive , reactionary. Like most of the exposes on religion, the aim is more about picking the belief systems and people apart , than really trying to understand from the point view of believer. She had an opportunity for real spiritual dialogue but chose to take the popular and lucrative way of derision.

If I could give this book a no-star rating, I would. It is a book describing and dismissing work performed by exorcists in Italy.

The description of the book is misleading as 'Office' in this case refers to the Catholic rite of exorcism not an administrative department in the Vatican Curia.
Throughout, the author goes to great lenghts to prove how exorcism is an arcane practice fueled by superstition.

If you are looking for an unbiased, well-researched book about this very unique rite and its place in Christianity, this book is definitely not for you.
