Hilarious. Even 30 years after first publishing this book, Lois Lowry strikes a chord with the reader. As a middle grade author wannabe, I am continuously amazed by how truthful and genuine Lowy makes her protagonist, Anastasia, seem. In this book, Anastasia is wrestling with hormones and her mother insists she does NOT need a psychiatrist, so Anastasia does the next best thing: she gets a pair of gerbils and a bust of Sigmund Freud to listen to her problems. This may be my favorite in the Anastasia series. A laugh-out-loud quick read.
