Since 2002, CBC Radio has celebrated Canada's poetic imagination in a series of competitions that commission and showcase new poetry while animating performances through a "poetry sports" approach. CBC Radio One has become a major player on the Canadian poetry landscape, hosting Poetry Face-Offs across the country. In this 4th annual event, sixty-two poets across Canada were comissioned to write poems on the theme of "play". Thirteen winners were chosen from competitions recorded across Canada and were broadcast on The Roundup. CBC Radio listeners then cast their votes. The overall winner was Tim Cusack from Edmonton. The first runner up was Jesse Robichaud from Moncton, and the second runner up was Tanya Davis from Charlottetown.
