It's not clear from the title or cover, but this book is actually aimed at couples whose sex lives have lost their original spark. But I think it would still be valuable for any couple that wants to expand and enhance their sex lives.

This book is based on a four-day workshop that the authors run at an American spa/health resort. A companion CD is also available (sold separately) that I gather contains narration to help you through the exercises and activities without having to consult the printed book in the middle of an activity.

The idea is that you and your partner take four full days to read about the authors' theories on sex (such as the physical, emotional, and spiritual components of sex), fill in some questionnaires, participate in some exercises and activities, and, above all, talk to each other about your sex life together. There is a chapter for each day, with a chapter or two with some introductory and preparatory material.

The theories and activities are based on Asian or Eastern philosophies, but are presented in a clear, understandable way. The authors acknowledge that some of this may sound "touchy-feely" to Westerners, but they argue that they have seen positive results in their workshops. To simulate the workshop experience, the book contains passages that show how four fictional couples, each with different issues, got through the long weekend (again based on actual workshop results).

Interestingly, the authors acknowledge the work of David Deida for their views on sex and spirituality. I have read some of Deida's works and find that Long Erotic Weekend is much less vague and is easier to follow than Deida's work, although Deida is perhaps more touching in his description of what great sex can be. This book is certainly inspiring and recommended.
