Maybe fourteen years ago this book would have been useful, insightful, valuable, stashed in my bag, ready to pull out for each new painting, as I slowly and with awe made my way around a museum, but today, it's completely unnecessary, clumsy, and incomplete.
When I go to a museum, my first choice is a tour guide, telling me a story about each painting or sculpture we stop in front of. Second choice, since I definitely need a narrative attached to each piece for it to affect me, I use the almost-always-available free wi-fi at the museum, my ancient iPad, and I google wiki for the story, making any response notes into my commonplace book.
