Sweet movie that showcases Nicolas Cage, Bridget Fonda, and Rosie Perez's considerable talents. Cage is the goody two-shoes cop who does radiate an easy warmth even when his heroic acts veer into fairytale land (like carrying a blind man across the street). His ethical quandry over whether to split $4 million lottery winnings with a waitress leads into making the right decision (even as he seems to lose everything). Rosie Perez is charmingly greedy as his wife, the high-screech hairstylist whose focus on materialism leads to some very funny scenes (hilarious encounter with PETA). Bridget Fonda is believable as the waitress whose streak of bad luck just won't quit. Underneath it is a cynical reporter for the New York Post who ultimately changes as well. NYC, its diversity, its pace of life that actually slows down in summer heat, and some of its institutions--like a happy, free tokens rush hour scene set on the subway system, newbie rollerblading in Central Park, neighborhood stick ball, the Plaza Hotel, the weary but honorable judges at the court system, and playing at Yankee Stadium---also add flavor.

Beautiful and sweet movie. I really liked Nicholas Cage. I love these type of movies, makes you smile and feel good. Bit like a modern day fairy tale.
