As a loyal reader of the "Vampire Earth" series, I was quite dismayed to read this latest addition. E. E. Knight has written a very lazy sloppy continuation of the adventures of "David Valentine" here. It is hard to believe Mr. Knight even wrote this. In the book we find out that "reapers" must be within a 10 mile straight line distance of a Kurian, for the Kur to maintain control. What!!!! The entire series is full of encounters with reapers in the deep wilderness, miles away from Kurian towers. In this instance the new revelation conveniently initiated a story arc, but left readers totally befuddled.
There is so much wrong with this novel. It is shorter than most, and even some of the dialogue doesn't make any sense. The ending seems thrown together out of the blue, with a ridiculous ill thought out judgment for a very serious offense.
Perhaps Mr. Knight is dividing too much time now that he has entered the world of dragons, in his other series. He has entered "James Axler" territory with this effort, and possibly lost many faithful readers.
