Poor Princess Anya. Forced to live with her evil stepmother's new husband, her evil stepstepfather. Plagued with an unfortunate ability to break curses with a magic-assisted kiss. And forced to go on the run when her stepstepfather decides to make the kingdom entirely his own. Aided by a loyal talking dog, a boy thief trapped in the body of a newt, and some extraordinarily mischievous wizards, Anya sets off on a Quest that, if she plays it right, will ultimately free her land-and teach her a thing or two about the use of power, the effectiveness of a well-placed pucker, and the finding of friends in places both high and low. With Frogkisser!, acclaimed bestselling author Garth Nix has conjured a fantastical tale for all ages, full of laughs and danger, surprises and delights, and an immense population of frogs. It's 50% fairy tale, 50% fantasy, and 100% pure enjoyment from start to finish.

Anya was such a great character. As she's confronted with a world-changing paradigm shift, she doesn't shrug it off, but she doesn't accept it right away either. The story was slower than I prefer, but I found it charming once I got into it.

Great book loved it.
We are doing it for book club as a light summer read. Princess Anya must find the ingredients to make a lip balm to return the frog her sister use to love back into a prince. Anya is the younger princess yet she always seems to be the one taking care of everyone and everything while trying to stay out of the way of her evil step-stepfather who wants the throne and who is turning himself into a great sorcerer and not the nice kind. Magic of his kind exacts a price far greater than your average wizard. It takes your soul and eventually you are dead, but walking,Voldemort anyone? Anya goes on a quest for lip balm and to find help defeating her evil no so parent. Anya is accompanied by one of the castle's talking dogs . The book may sound a little dark but every fairy tale has that element. There are many amusing moments in this book especially when the prince dives into the moat to escape and Anya finds out that her step step father has changed quite a few princes and others into frogs, that is a lot of lip balm. Gerald the Herald is the paparazzi that shows up and screams headlines right when you don't want him around. Gerald the Herald is not just one guy. All heralds dress up like him and don the facial hair even the girls. Many people and non people join Anya in her quest to battle against the dark sorcerers.
This is not just a children's book. It is fun for everyone.

I thought this book had a lot of potential, however I couldn't get into it at all. I actually found it boring. I don't think this should have been in the teen section, I think a younger audience would be a better fit.

Humorous fantasy, a teen version of Piers Anthony, perhaps. Definitely a light read, amusing, and fun.

Hmm. I didn't feel very involved in the story for some reason. Also, not really the kind of fairy tale I prefer. The characters were not very well-developed, and their predicaments weren't especially sympathy inducing. In addition, why in the world was this listed as Teen? Overall, not something I'd recommend.

If you like your teen fantasy with a hefty dash of humor, and a fair bit of poking fun at traditional fairy tales, then Frogkisser is the book for you. It has a super appealing main character, dogs play a major role (!!), and I laughed out loud more than once while reading this. I can't think of a word to describe it other than charming.
