In the tradition of The Girl on the Train, The Silent Wife and Gone Girl comes an enthralling psychological thriller that spins one woman's seemingly good fortune, and another woman's mysterious fate, through a kaleidoscope of duplicity, death and deception. Please make a list of every possession you consider essential to your life. The request seems odd, even intrusive--and for the two women who answer, the consequences are devastating. EMMA Reeling from a traumatic break-in, Emma wants a new place to live. But none of the apartments she sees are affordable or feel safe. Until One Folgate Street. The house is an architectural masterpiece: a minimalist design of pale stone, plate glass and soaring ceilings. But there are rules. The enigmatic architect who designed the house retains full control: no books, no throw pillows, no photos or clutter or personal effects of any kind. The space is intended to transform its occupant--and it does. JANE After a personal tragedy, Jane needs a fresh start. When she finds One Folgate Street she is instantly drawn to the space--and to its aloof but seductive creator. Moving in, Jane soon learns about the untimely death of the home's previous tenant, a woman similar to Jane in age and appearance. As Jane tries to untangle truth from lies, she unwittingly follows the same patterns, makes the same choices, crosses paths with the same people and experiences the same terror, as the girl before. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to others if you liked the girl on the train!!

I actually really enjoyed this book and found it a compelling read...and this isn't really my preferred genre. (maybe that's why?) It was an eerie, interesting plot, without going too far down the road of gore. And I felt the book did a good job with it's ending.

This book is similar in vain to the "Girl on Train" which I found very compelling, albeit a little dark. And I preferred it to "The Woman in Cabin 10."

Dull writing, boring premise. I got through 30 pages and gave up. Pretentious and unappealing.

Unique writing style, even the font looks different. Turns out the typeface is called Sabon by a German typographer. *Spoiler alert: the title is not who you think the book is about - surprising twist. Will surely check out JP Delaney's other books. Apparently it is a pseudonym of a famous writer. I wonder who?!

How anyone could consider this good is beyond me. Pretentious and boring.

Misogynistic crap. Predictable.

Not worth it - boring!

A good read. Two separate yet connected stories. Good plot twists and keeps you guessing.

This is a fast-faced and riveting psychological thriller. Smoothly moving from Emma's past to Jane's present, the author captures the reader with increasing suspense and surprising twists & turns.

JP Delaney is a pseudonym for a writer who has previously published best-selling novels under another name; supposedly, Tony Strong. "The Girl Before" is to be made into a film soon (directed by Ron Howard).

The Girl Before is fast paced thriller, told from alternating perspectives of 2 women who occupy the same residence years apart. There was a creepiness to the story that had me double checking all the closets in my apartment before bed. Parts of the story are given to the reader in bursts and spurts, and some threads are never truly explained - however I don't feel like that detracted from the overall plot itself. An internet search shows that the movie rights have been sold and Ron Howard is set to direct. It'll make a good movie, with plenty of suspense and mystery.
